What's Going On

I really don’t know what’s going on with me and this blog. I feel like with the infrequency with which I post, I really should give it up, but for some reason I feel like keeping it going. And yet I know that it’s barely going. Lately, it seems like all I ever blog about is school/work. Which probably means that school/work is my life. Which depresses the heck out of me.

So what’s going on with me outside of school/work? Let’s see if a recap of this weekend will give you any insight.

Saturday:
I slept in (hallelujah!) until 7:30. (On weekdays I get up at 5:00 so yeah, that’s sleeping in.) Got up, made pancakes and sat around like a lump all morning. Made lunch. Went grocery shopping. Made dinner. Watched a DVD (Bella) with my guy. Out by 9:30 p.m.

Sunday:
Slept in again. Made a lazy girl’s breakfast (aka toast). Cooked like a maniac all morning: kimchi, a huge vat of oh-ee muchim for church, eggs, spinach and carrots for kimbap. Went to church. Thought seriously about never going back to church after only two other people aside from my guy and I showed up and the pastor’s wife yelled at us that we “cannot just sit here and soak up "the Message". We need to go out and share it with others.” She then commanded us to pray out loud and repent of our sins. I told my guy later that I think she is certifiably insane and if it weren’t for our lust of Korean culture (i.e. Korean food & language), I would not go back. She’s a nut job. Went home and rolled 9 kimbap rolls (lazy girl would never do this normally, but student’s birthday was Monday. See? There’s school again.). Watched another DVD (We Own the Night). Went to bed.

So there you have it. My life seems to consist of work/school, sleeping, eating, and cooking.

Ugh. I’m so bored.

As "boring" as you think your life may be, it sounds quite decadent to me! Keep posting when you can/want, I'll live vicariously through you for a bit. :)

I agree with Kim... :-)

Gah, don't you love Korean churches where they urge you to spread the word??? I think almost every Korean church has a Jehovah's Witness tendency... (a couple visited my new place the other day... Jehovah's Witnesses I mean, not Koreans...)

My life is decadent? Dear God. It's so tedious and mundane. I am considering children because I figure having some could force me to do something interesting at least once in awhile.

So, how'd you like Bella? Are there any Facebook quizzes for it? I haven't had my butt kicked by you on a movie quiz in awhile. ;P
And thanks for voting to keep the blog going. I really love people who post frequently. I wish I could be one of them.

Bella was OK. I didn't like the ending that much but the two leads were fantastic.

I usually take a movie quiz after each DVD viewing but there wasn't one for Bella. You can probably beat me on the "Mr. Brooks" Quiz. I got a lowly 60% on that one. :P

Sounds like a pretty good weekend to me...minus the church nut case.

I still check your blog to see if you've posted, so that means I care whether you do or not! A weekend spent as you shared seems fairly perfect periodically in contrast to the energy you must use during the week.

Children definitely end up defining one's life -- which is sometimes good and sometimes bad. :-) This weekend I look forward :-P to a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese followed by a robotics banquet. Honestly, I don't look forward to either. The b'day party is for a newly arrived Korean girl turning 9 who invited my Juliet. This means two things -- the mom will go overboard buying way too many tokens and food for the kids (which means the party will last too long) and the little girl is rather ... spoiled and we can't think of ONE THING! that she will be thrilled with as a gift. Seriously. Any suggestions?

The robotics banquet is something that I "should" want to go to, but (sigh) ... With Cody being the captain of the team, I'm thinking that someone from our family ought to show up for support. What if there are awards or something? I just wish I enjoyed some of the other parents (or even knew them!).

About the Korean church you attend -- I understand why you are going. HOWEVER, I wouldn't attend any church that I didn't agree with their teachings or their style of implementing them. While Jesus did teach his disciples (and us) to go and "... make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit ..." (The Great Commission - Matthew 28:16-20), I can't think of anywhere in the Bible where Jesus commanded us to pray aloud confessing our sins. And why is the pastor's wife yelling in church? Does she co-pastor?

Honestly, church should be inspiring, enlightening, encouraging, and spiritual. Even though this church is where you get your Korean "culture" for the week, I'd re-evaluate its worth.

Boy, did I say a lot. Hopefully I didn't offend. Not my intention!

I'm glad it's not just me who thinks she's a nut case. I needed that validation.

robin--
You could never offend me. I so agree with you. She was yelling in church because she was angry and disappointed (and my husband verified that he also believes this) that more people didn't attend. Actually, the church is falling apart and I (in my own judgemental way) put the blame on the pastor and his wife (and no, she is not a co-pastor--she just swooped in and started YELLING). I was so put off. I am very much opposed to the attitudes toward sin and repentance presented by these two. I have actually quit going in the past, but well...culture (and my guy) brought me reluctantly back. *sigh*

Good luck at Chuck E. Cheese & with the robotics banquet. I think I'm starting to feel fortunate for the luxury of sitting around on the couch on the weekends. :>/

i agree with the other commenters about the pastor's wife. (and if that's the way they run their church, then i don't think you're being judgemental (sp?) by saying they play a part (if not all) in the failure of the church.

*there was a korean church here that was pretty established but after only a few years with the new pastor, the church almost folded - until a small group of people got him voted out . . . talk about politics!

keep posting! =)

Thanks. Your story about the pastor that got voted out, makes me think about the churches I grew up in. Pastors rotated every two years or so because every pastor wasn't a good match for everyone. They weren't voted out; that's just the way it worked. I think it helped to keep the church "healthy". If there was a particularly bad match, the congregation could try to get him moved (through a vote). My husband and I have been on again off again with this church for at least 4 years and these two seem to be permanent fixtures. It's very frustrating because my husband really needs some connection to his culture and this seems to be the only way to get it, yet I am not comfortable with their approach to Christianity. :(
